SpreadSmart is about using the best application method to get the most economic benefit from spreading muck. Whilst spreading slurry with a splash plate is cheapest; is it the most economic? For example:

• Slurry & Dirty water from a 100 cow herd contains about 7.2 tonnes of Nitrogen
• Apply this in spring with a Splash Plate and grass will use 2.6 tonnes. Value £1,200
• Apply the same slurry at the same time with an injector and the grass will use 4 tonnes worth £1,800.
  

Injectors have many benefits over surface application:

• Reduced N lost to atmosphere = more fertiliser value and less complaints!
• Increased spreading days - so more slurry can be spread when it's needed.
• Increased Grazing Days - due to less contamination of the sward and faster growth response.
